Wai Kino, Wai Mate

Through the WAI wānanga within the Atua – Matua series there is scope for the development of a Māori understanding of water safety and negotiating dangerous and harmful waters.  Understanding the whakapapa and history associated with specific bodies of water in Aotearoa demands a respect for the water environment and commands us to rethink the way in which we interact with water.  Reading weather signs through a Māori lens and learning to relax in dangerous waters through understanding one’s own whakapapa connections are just some of the applied outcomes of engaging with WAI this way.
